Events & Gatherings

Come on out to the porch and grab a seat.

Come hear about the old ways, the new ways, and the Appalachian way.

  • the Old Ways
  • the New Ways
  • the Appalachian Way

There is no one right way to do anything in Appalachia.

Most gatherings are small and beginner-friendly. You do not need to identify as a witch, artist, scholar, or practitioner to attend.

Come curious.

Come respectful.

Come as you are.

Use the sections and links below to find the gathering or resource you need.

Start with the Mini-Retreat Series for outdoor seasonal gatherings, Workshops for learning sessions, Triad Witches, Pagans, and Allies for community connection, and Downloads for worksheets or materials tied to retreats and workshops.

Note: Retreat and workshop downloads may be password protected. If a gathering includes worksheets or private materials, registered participants will receive the password in their confirmation email.

About Our Mini-Retreats

Appalachian Juju mini-retreats are small, two- to three-hour seasonal gatherings rooted in Appalachian history, land, reflection, folk practice, and community care.

Each retreat is built around a place-based theme: river, mountain, forest, crossroads, cave, or homecoming.

We gather for an hour-long presentation in the oral tradition of Appalachia, followed by conversation, time for personal reflection, and hands-on folk practice rituals. The goal is to slow down, listen closely, and carry something useful back into daily life.

Do not mistake this for modern witchcraft practice alone. These ways are old as the hills themselves, some say. Granny never would have cottoned to kin, or anyone else, calling what she did “witchcraft.” She likely would have seen it as nothing more than taking care of her own.

These gatherings are not about performance or pretending to know everything. There is no one right or wrong way to do everything in Appalachia. That is part of what makes the culture living. It changes from one holler to the next, one family to the next, and one generation to the next.

No. These gatherings are about being still, presence, curiosity, memory, future generations, and letting the land have a say in all of it.

Why Only 20 Tickets?

Mini-retreats are capped at 20 participants so the gathering can stay personal, accessible, and manageable.

A smaller group makes it easier to hear one another, ask questions, move at a gentler pace, and make room for different bodies, comfort levels, and needs. It also helps protect the places we gather by keeping our footprint lighter.

Twenty people is enough for community, but still small enough for care.

Other Appalachian Juju Events

Mini-retreats are only one part of Appalachian Juju’s event work.

This page also connects you to workshops, community gatherings, vending events, markets, festivals, and downloadable materials tied to in-person learning.

Workshops

Workshops are learning-focused gatherings where we slow down with one subject, skill, story, practice, or piece of Appalachian folk knowledge. Some may be hands-on. Some may be discussion-based. Some may include take-home materials or participant downloads.

Triad Witches, Pagans, and Allies

Triad Witches, Pagans, and Allies is a community connection space for local practitioners, curious neighbors, and respectful allies. Based out of Winston-Salem, NC, we meet weekly to biweekly (weather permitting) for some free meet-ups and some activities you may need to purchase a ticket. We try to mix it up so everyone can find an interest and have opportunities. We encourage car pooling in the group for events we travel further from home, when needed, but it cannot be guaranteed.

These gatherings are meant to help people find one another, share resources, build trust, and create room for spiritual and cultural community in the North Carolina Triad.

Appalachian Juju Will Be Vending Here

This section will list markets, festivals, fairs, Ren faires, pop-ups, art events, and community vending days where Appalachian Juju will have a table or booth.

These listings may include location, date, time, what I’m bringing, and whether I’ll be offering books, prints, tools, music, folk materials, or event sign-ups.

Notations will be made if not a child friendly venue.

Retreat and Workshop Downloads

Some gatherings include worksheets, reflection pages, handouts, or follow-up materials.

When downloads are connected to a paid or registered event, participants will receive the password in their confirmation email.

Accessibility & Comfort

Accessibility Notes for Each Event

Each event listing will include a simple accessibility note so you can decide whether the gathering may work for your body, mobility, sensory needs, and comfort level before registering.

Because many Appalachian Juju gatherings happen outdoors, conditions may vary by weather, terrain, parking, seating, noise, bathrooms, shade, and distance from the meeting point.

If you have questions about access needs, mobility, seating, sensory supports, bathroom access, weather concerns, or whether a specific event is a good fit, please reach out before registering.
