Stitching Protection
Learn how thread, cloth, knots, and hidden stitches carried protection, prayer, memory, and intention in Appalachian homes. This hands-on workshop explores practices such as tying knots, sewing verses or symbols into hems, and using scraps of meaningful fabric while creating a small protective textile piece of your own.
The workshop is held live via an online video link. The first hour focuses on teaching and discussion of the history and practices. An additional hour is spent discussing the materials you may already have at home and how they can be used to create your own fiber traditions of protection using Appalachian Cunning Woman methods.
Worksheets and printouts are included with the workshop and will be available to download through your confirmation email.
Appalachian folk traditions developed through the blending of several cultural practices over generations, creating a living tradition that is especially well suited to thoughtful adaptation for your own personal practice and needs.
